Product Description

The Flash Deck™ Strip-In can be installed at Eaves, Rakes, Valleys, and Wall locations.

Flash Deck™ Strip-In reinforces all critical roof junctions. It creates essential redundancy in valleys, effectively isolates the vertical legs of wall flashings, and provides multiple eave application options for superior deck sealing. Additionally, this layer effectively isolates fasteners, preventing corrosion.

EAVE INSTALLATION

Option 1: Substrate-First Application

(To be performed prior to drip edge and primary field sheet installation)

  1. Work in Pairs: It is recommended using a two-person team.
  2. Start at the Corner: Peel back 4” to 6” of the release liner and lightly stick the Flash Deck™ Strip-In to the substrate at the eave/rake interface.
  3. Set the Reveal: Moving along the eave first, hold the product slightly off the substrate to guide your desired fascia reveal.
  4. Peel and Press: Have the person holding the roll pull the liner and the other person guides and presses Flash Deck™ Strip-In onto the substrate and fascia.
  5. Ensure Adhesion: Roll to bond the material firmly into the substrate.
  6. Overlap Sections: Maintain a minimum 4” overlap whenever starting a new section.
  7. Complete the Rake: After finishing the eave, repeat the same process up the rake.
  8. Drip Edge: Install drip edge onto detail.
  9. Field Sheet: Install primary Flash Deck™ product to nose of drip edge.

Important Notice: By utilizing this sequence, the final result completely sandwiches the metal drip edge nail flange between the underlying Flash Deck™ Strip-In and the overlapping primary Flash Deck™ product. This dual-layer encapsulation aggressively seals around all perimeter fasteners and provides a complete deck seal application.

Option 2: Over-Flange Application

(To be performed after the primary field sheet and drip edge are already installed)

  1. Work in Pairs: It is recommended using a two-person team.
  2. Start at the Corner: With the primary Flash Deck™ field product installed under the drip edge, peel back 4” to 6” of the release liner and lightly stick the Flash Deck™ Strip-In over the nail flange.
  3. Align and Encapsulate: Moving along the eave first, hold the product slightly off the surface to guide your alignment, ensuring it fully encapsulates the nail flange and overlaps a minimum of 4” onto the primary Flash Deck™ field product.
  4. Peel and Press: Have the person holding the roll pull the liner and press the Flash Deck™ Strip-In down.
  5. Ensure Adhesion: Roll to bond the material firmly onto the flange and primary Flash Deck™ surface.
  6. Overlap Sections: Maintain a minimum 4” overlap whenever starting a new section.
  7. Complete the Rake: After finishing the eave, repeat the same process up the rake.

Important Note: If the primary Flash Deck™ field product is installed onto the fascia and under the drip edge at the eave, the drip edge nail flange must be covered with Flash Deck™ Strip-In. By utilizing this sequence, the final result completely sandwiches the metal drip edge nail flange between the underlying Flash Deck™ field sheet and the overlapping Flash Deck™ Strip-In product. This dual-layer encapsulation aggressively seals around all perimeter fasteners and provides a complete deck seal application.

VALLEY INSTALLATION

General Note: For valley applications, Flash Deck™ Strip-In is installed prior to the primary Flash Deck™ self-adhered product. This sequence builds essential redundancy at critical interfaces and provides the malleability required to conform to the irregular surfaces often found in valley details.

  1. Prepare and Crease: Cut the 9” wide Flash Deck™ Strip-In into manageable lengths. Fold each section in half lengthwise to create a crease that conforms to the valley profile.
  2. Align and Place: It is recommended to work with a second person for this step. Remove as much of the release liner as possible, and center in the valley adhering one side then work towards the other valley side ensuring tight contact at valley bottom.
  3. Work Bottom to Top: Always install Flash Deck™ Strip-In working from the eave up toward the ridge.
  4. Overlap Sections: Ensure each new section of underlayment overlaps the previous one by a minimum of 6”.
  5. Secure and Bond: Apply firm hand pressure or use a small hand roller to smooth the membrane, ensuring complete adhesion to the substrate.
  6. Install Primary Roofing: Once all valley joints and seams are securely covered, proceed with the application of your primary roof underlayment (such as Flash Deck™ Metal Base or Flash Deck™ Shingle Base).

Important Note: Flash Deck™ Strip-In is not a complete standalone underlayment. It must always be covered by a primary self-adhered Flash Deck™ roofing underlayment.

RAKE INSTALLATION

Install Flash Deck™ Strip-In as an optional enhancement over the drip edge nail flange to ensure all fasteners are fully encapsulated.

WALL INSTALLATION

General Note: For wall applications, Flash Deck™ Strip-In is installed as an integral part of the finished roofing system. It fully encapsulates the vertical leg of all standard metal wall flashings including step, continuous, and headwall flashings. By securing this critical interface, Flash Deck™ Strip-In provides essential protection in an area that is a common source of roof and siding failures.

  1. Base Installation: Install the primary Flash Deck™ field product up the vertical wall as required by local building codes.
  2. Install Flashings: Complete the roofing system, including vertical wall flashings.
  3. Alignment Guide: Snap a chalk line onto the wall flashing to ensure Flash Deck™ Strip-In will remain hidden once the final siding is installed.
  4. Keep It Straight: With a partner, install Flash Deck™ Strip-In onto the vertical leg along the chalk line.
  5. Roll to Bond: Roll Flash Deck™ Strip-In firmly onto the wall and flashing to ensure an aggressive bond.
Important Note: This specification is subject to the Flash Deck™ General Overview, which is hereby incorporated by reference. Complete system guidelines—including precautions, surface preparation, installation, storage, and essential safety requirements—are included in the primary General Overview document.
